Your family's own lending fund, run by the rules.
Members put money in and earn a fair return. Members borrow for cars, school and homes at a fair rate. The interest stays in the family instead of going to a lender.
The family keeps its own company and its own checking account. Famutual never holds the money.
How it works
- 1
Set it up in an hour
Guided setup with proven default rules. The operating agreement is written from your rules and every member signs it online.
- 2
Members join and put money in
Each member gets a reference code. Money sent to the fund's account is matched to the right member from the account feed.
- 3
It runs itself
Quarterly interest, loan applications with pass or fail tests, committee votes, payment tracking, reminders and statements.
What members get
Rates come from the IRS's published Applicable Federal Rate, so they are fair to both sides and reset on their own each quarter. Example at October 2026 rates with the default rules:
Savers
5.61%
a year, credited every quarter
- The mid-term AFR plus 1 point, reset each quarter
- Founding contributions earn a small bonus every year
- Take money out with 90 days' notice
Borrowers
7.11% to 8.11%
fixed for the life of the loan
- Secured loans cost the saver rate plus 1.5 points; unsecured plus 2.5
- Cars, school, a home, a business, medical bills, paying off higher-rate debt
- A rate cut after 12 and 24 on-time payments
Rules built in, so nobody has to be the bad guy
Every loan passes the same tests
Purpose, term, payment size, the fund's cash and the borrower's standing. A failing application cannot be approved.
A committee decides, not a parent
3 people vote; anyone related to the loan sits out.
Cash stays on hand
20% of capital is never lent, and a loss reserve builds to 5% of loans.
No one borrows too much
No borrower owes more than 25% of the fund, and tighter limits apply while the fund is small.
Late payments follow a ladder
A grace period, a fee, a reminder, a higher rate, then a pause for real hardship. The same for everyone.
Every dollar is on the record
An append-only ledger, quarterly statements for each member and a year-end packet for the family's CPA.
What Famutual is, and is not
Software, not a lender
Famutual never holds, pools, moves or lends money. The family's own company owns the account, and money moves only on the family's instructions.
Rules, not advice
Famutual applies the rules your family chose. It gives no legal, tax or investment advice. Your attorney and CPA review the documents before you file.
Private by design
Only members see the fund. Account numbers are encrypted, every change is logged, and the ledger can never be edited after the fact.

Questions
Do we need our own company?
Yes. The fund is a limited liability company the family owns, and it has its own checking account. Famutual walks you through forming it in your state and what to bring to open the account. Nothing is filed without your say-so.
Who sets the interest rates?
Your family does, once, in setup. The defaults tie every rate to the IRS's published Applicable Federal Rate so loans between relatives stay above the line the IRS draws, and rates follow it on their own.
Which states?
Setup today includes state facts for Arizona, Utah and Idaho, with a general walkthrough everywhere else. Your attorney reviews the agreement for your state before you sign.
How does the money move?
Members send money straight to the fund's account from their own; the family's treasurer sends loans and withdrawals from it. Famutual reads the account feed and records what happened. It never touches the money.
